Choosing tea

When we refer to the word ‘Tea’, we are referring to one plant, the Camellia sinensis, the true tea plant. There is a reason we separate the ‘pure whole-leaf teas’ from the ‘teas with botanicals’, as they have very different actions, highlighting the difference between ‘tonic’ plants and ‘medicinal’ plants.

Tonic plants (also known as adaptogens) increase the efficiency of our innate healing system, promoting more general good health by having a more holistic approach to the entire body and it’s systems. Considered a truly elite class of plants, tonics are known to impart strength, energy, endurance, and mental clarity and help you stay in a calmer, more productive state.

The tea plant Camellia Sinensis in its whole-leaf form, sits within this category, offering this more proactive support. Through clever processing methods, there are 5 categories of tea created from the Camellia Sinensis plant- white, green, oolong, black and pu'erh. We have blended our own tea and called it All The Tea In China. It is a coming together of all 5 teas, creating a delicious, rich and centring tea and is the ideal tea if unsure which one will best suit.

‘Medicinal’ plants are ‘the fixers’. A plant is classed as medicinal if it has active ingredients that can cure or lessen symptoms and most herbal infusions will fall into this category. They are generally used very therapeutically and are much more targeted, so our ‘teas with botanicals’, which blend both tea and medicinal herbs together, are named to help guide you as to their action.

So when struggling with something in particular- poor sleep, disturbed digestion or flagging energy- a tea blended with more targeted botanicals might be your first port of call to help get you back in balance.
