Tea and spiritual practice
Originally tea was used for the cultivation of energy or chi (qi) when the monks were spending many hours in meditation, in practice and working on the land. They used the tea to balance their energy levels, gathering it with great reverence and mindfulness because they knew that it contained within it all that they needed to sustain their aspirations for great insight and understanding.
How Chinese teas aid spiritual development
-
Meditation and self reflective practices
Due to the presence of. a unique amino acid called L-Theanine. the regular practice of drinking Chinese tea has subtle yet profound effects on your brain and nervous system. Not only does it reduce cortisol and regulate your stress response but shifts your very way of attending to the world to be more balanced between the left and right hemispheres of your brain. This harmonises two distinct forms of attention, namely that of 'intender' and 'observer'. In this liminal space a healthier more balance world view emerges.

Energy cultivation
Everything in creation is energetically vibrating, nothing is truly still. Negative things or anything detrimental to health, including emotions vibrate at a lower rate. On a scale of 1-1000 shame is the lowest at 20, rising upwards through to love at 500, 700 upwards is considered pure consciousness or enlightenment. The teas when tested by a fully qualified kinesiologist familiar with this scale (Known as 'Power vs Force') tested them at 970+.

The story of All The Tea In China (acronym: ATTIC)
In 2004 Ric and I both had daily practices which we loved. Ric had found qigong and I chose yoga, we were both looking for something to drink to accompany those practices and the natural choice was green tea.
